Nearly one in three teenage deaths is the result of a car accident. More often than not, a teenager is behind the wheel. Now, more than ever, these people need to be taught safe, effective driving techniques. They need qualified teachers to teach them. Do you love working with kids? Do you love driving? Many people wonder if there are any specific education requirements necessary before they can be hired as a driving instructor. While requirements differ for which type of vehicle you are teaching on, most driving instructors in America teach teenagers how to drive using a standard four-wheel car. For these teachers, there is no higher education degree required.

While a college education is not required to get a job in this field, an applicant will need to have either a high school degree or have passed the GED. Most driver schools will prefer the high school degree. Additional schooling, either from a community college or four-year school, may help set applicants apart if the job is competitive.

If you have been certified in a state different than the state you want to teach in, you may need to go through training again. It all depends on the school.

Many local community colleges offer several courses that can increase the likelihood of getting hired from a drivers ed schools. Any background in maintaining cars is a great addition to the resume, because maintaining the driving instructor automobiles will be part of the job. Because most driving instructors in America are hired to teach teenagers age 14-17 how to drive a car, having teaching, coaching, or counseling certifications can also help differentiate you from others who apply for the job.
